ENGEL Joined By Former AMON AMARTH Touring Bassist
November 13, 2008ENGEL — the Gothenburg, Sweden-based quintet featuring guitarists Marcus Sunesson (ex-THE CROWN) and Niclas Engelin (PASSENGER, ex-GARDENIAN, IN FLAMES),drummer Mojjo (RELEVANT FEW, DRACENA) and vocalist Mangan Klavborn — has announced the addition of British bassist Steve Drennan (LOCUS) to the group's ranks.
Commented Steve (see photo below): "I first met with ENGEL whilst performing with another well-known Swedish metal band [AMON AMARTH during the 2007 The Invaluable Darkness tour with DIMMU BORGIR] albeit from Stockholm. I'm sure the Gothenburg faithful won't hold that against me given the fact that I am from England!
"For me personally, it's a fantastic opportunity to be part of such an amazing band as well and especially with all of the hard work that has gone into making the latest album of which is absolutely awesome. I know that ENGEL fans have been waiting a while to hear this but I think it's fair to say that this new album will certainly appeal to a much wider audience. Everything from the production is much harder, faster and bigger than before and I am looking forward to contributing to the ever continuing success of ENGEL!"
ENGEL's sophomore album was recorded at PUK studio in Gjerlev, Denmark with producer Tue Madsen (THE HAUNTED, HIMSA, SICK OF IT ALL). An early 2009 release via SPV Records is expected.
ENGEL's debut album, "Absolute Design", received its long-awaited U.S. release on May 20 via SPV/Steamhammer.
IN FLAMES frontman Anders Fridén helped his old friend Niclas (they both played together in PASSENGER) record demos and assisted in the production of the "Absolute Design" CD at Dug-Out Studios in Uppsala with Daniel Bergstrand (producer of IN FLAMES, MESHUGGAH).
